Understanding Secure Horizons Medicare Complete and Direct

Secure Horizons is not on its own a company. Instead, it is owned by the medical insurance company knows as UnitedHealth Group. This section of the larger company is designed specifically for Medicare and Medicare supplements. It began to offer Medicare options back in 1985 with an actual HMO based plan. Since that time, the company has begun to offer an expanded set of Medicare options with AARP Medicare, including plans and supplements in order to make sure that every person is able to get the medical coverage that they need.

While most private insurance companies can only offer Medicare supplements, Secure Horizons is different. They actually have a contract with the government that allows them to actually offer Medicare based health plans. Specifically, Secure Horizons handles those patients who will be making use of parts A and B of Mostmedicare.com plans. These plans offered by the company are called Medicare Advantage plans (see the menu at the top for our guide on this). There are several different options that each patient will be able to choose form. The options include the following: Medicare Complete, Medicare Direct, Medicate Complete Choice and Medicare Complete Special Needs. Details on each of these plans are as follows.

Secure Horizons offers Medicare Complete Plans, which are HMOs. They provide medical care through specific local doctors and hospitals. The good thing about these plans is that if you use one of the contracted doctors, you will have very little out of pocket costs. However, using an out of network doctor will usually mean paying the full bill out of pocket.

Medicare Direct Plans offered by Secure Horizons, is a plan based on the concept of private fee for service and work like AARP medicare plans. In other words, contracted doctors will have a different fee scale and level that they will charge patients on this type of coverage.

The Medicare Complete Choice plans are similar to Complete, but they work on a PPO. This means you will have insurance coverage with both in network and out of network doctors and hospitals. However, in network doctors will have even more coverage for less out of pocket expense.

Finally, Secure Horizons offers Medicare Complete Special Needs, which is designed specifically for patients who have special needs, like lifelong illnesses or those who have to live in an institution for extra care. These are just another part of the long line of Secure Horizons medicare advantage plans for seniors.

In addition to these Medicare Plans, Secure Horizons also offers supplements that can be added to the base plans for even further coverage so that you will not have any or you will have very little out of pocket expense.
