Effective April 1: New AARP® Prescription Discount Program

The AARP® Prescription Discount Program provided by Walgreens will no longer be offered as a value-added service unique to AARP® Medicare Supplement insurance plan holders as of March 31, 2012. Beginning April 1, 2012, a new prescription discount program, administered by Catalyst Rx, will be available to all AARP® members as a membership benefit.

Program Benefits
This new program will enable AARP members to take advantage of exclusive discounts on FDA-approved prescription medications and specialty drugs at more than 55,000 participating retail pharmacies and via mail order.

How Plan Holders Will be Notified
Insured plan holders who used the prescription discount program in the last year will receive a letter in the mail explaining this transition as well as a prescription ID card for the new discount program.

All other plan holders may visit aarppharmacy.com for additional information and to enroll in the program.

Recommended Action to Take for Members with Medicare Part D
This prescription discount program is separate from Medicare Part D coverage and does not replace Part D coverage. Members with a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan will not have their Part D benefits change. The prescription discount program is only intended to provide discounts on prescription drugs that are not covered under the member’s Part D plan or another third-party payor. You should always present your Part D card first to a pharmacist.
